WATCH: Taxi Convoy Hijacks N1, Force Oncoming Cars Off the Road Near Sasolburg

Motorists travelling on the N1 south near the Sasolburg turn-off on Monday were left shocked as a convoy of about 10 minibus taxis and another vehicle were caught on camera driving recklessly, occupying both sides of the national road.

The shocking footage, which has since gone viral, is 2 minutes and 50 seconds long and shows the group of taxis weaving from lane to lane, not only using their designated two southbound lanes but also veering over the solid lines into the oncoming traffic lanes.

At one point in the video, an oncoming car can be seen swerving off onto the shoulder to avoid a head-on collision. Immediately behind it, a truck is forced to drastically reduce its speed to prevent a major crash.

The convoy continues to move from side to side across all four lanes of the dual carriageway, completely disregarding traffic laws and endangering other road users.

The motive behind the reckless driving spree remains unknown at this stage.

There were no visible traffic escorts or any signs of an emergency that might justify such behaviour.

According to the driver who filmed the incident, the convoy remained disorderly throughout the clip, with no effort made to return to their correct side of the road.

The video ends with the taxis still driving erratically, raising concerns over public safety and law enforcement on one of South Africa’s busiest highways.

Authorities have yet to comment on the footage, and it is unclear whether any action has been taken against the drivers involved.
