Watch: Truck Driver Ducks as Bullets Fly in Umtata Ambush

Truck driving is already one of South Africa’s most dangerous jobs due to harsh working conditions, but the constant threat of criminals makes the situation even worse.

This was evident in a recent chilling incident on the N2 in Umtata, where a truck driver narrowly escaped what looks like an attempted hijacking.

The incident occurred on Saturday night around 23h42.

The driver, simply doing his job, is confronted by three armed robbers who appears on the road, trying to force him to stop.

Sensing imminent danger, the quick-thinking trucker sped past instead of stopping.

Enraged, the assailants opened fire, but the driver managed to duck just in time, escaping unharmed.

The video highlights the escalating risk truckers face, especially as the festive season approaches – a time notorious for increased hijackings.

Criminals often target truckers carrying valuable cargo, leaving drivers vulnerable on South Africa’s roads.

Truckers are urged to remain vigilant, particularly in known hotspots like Umtata.

Avoid parking in unsafe areas, and where possible, avoid travelling at night in crime-prone regions.

Drivers are also reminded to report suspicious activity immediately to the authorities.

While the driver escaped unscathed this time, the trucking community calls for urgent action to improve road safety and protect those who keep the country moving.

Stay safe out there, truckers – your life is worth more than any load.
