Truck crashes into sea at Durban harbour

A Durban truck driver is lucky to be alive after he accidentally drove into the sea at Durban harbour last night. Thanks to his swimming prowess, he managed to rescue himself from the deep waters.

It is alleged that the driver was on his shift, loading a ship at Maydon Warf 1 when he decided to take a nap. During his nap, his controller came and knocked on his door to wake him up.

When he woke up, it’s alleged that he saw the lights from the DCT on the other side of the harbour and drove off.

Unbeknown to him, he was driving straight into the sea.

This goes on to show how some of the truck drivers are overworked by these ruthless controllers.

And when something like this happens, there is no consequence to them even though they cause it.

These trucks which unload and load ships are always working non-stop and with the same drivers.

Something should be done to make sure drivers are given enough time to rest or else we will keep on seeing incidents like these.

Thank God this one was not fatal.

Imagine what could have happened if the driver could not swim and the whole unit dips into the deep sea?
