A truck driver is feared dead after a horrific crash involving two heavy vehicles near Aus in southern Namibia earlier today.
According to reports from local alert network NamStplatforms, warnings had been issued earlier about a broken-down truck that was standing in the roadway. Despite the alerts, another truck collided into the rear of the stationary vehicle a short while later.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and are currently attending to the situation. While the exact condition of the driver has not been confirmed, eyewitnesses described the impact as severe, leaving the driver trapped in the cab of the crashed truck. At this stage, it’s unclear whether there were any passengers involved.
Authorities have not yet released official details about the cause of the crash or the identities of those involved. NamStplatforms has urged motorists travelling along the route to remain vigilant and adhere to warning alerts posted by local platforms, especially on long and isolated stretches of the Namibian road network.
