It is alleged that the crane was passing above the truck when all of a sudden the spreader fell onto the cab of the truck.

The witnesses, who have refused to be named, said that the operator tried in vain to hoist the spreader off the truck cab.

The victim, whose name cannot be released until next of kin are informed, was trapped in his truck cab and died at the scene.

According to the witnesses, Transnet Paramedics could not do anything to help the trucker.

The port was closed for a long time as investigations went on.

Transnet Port Terminals recently took over the maintenance of the Kalmar cranes from the manufacturer.

Another witness had claimed that he saw the crane being repaired just before the unfortunate incident.

It remains to be seen what the accident would be blamed on as truck drivers have always had problems with some operators who waste time on their cellphones while trucks queue for service.

Truck drivers have many unanswered questions about what really caused the accident.

SA Trucker will update truckers on it’s platforms as soon as Transnet Port Terminals finish their investigations.
