A truck driver tragically lost his life in a horrific head-on collision involving two trucks on the N2 at Mfekayi between Mtubatuba and Hluhluwe on Wednesday morning.
The crash, which involved a side tipper truck and a log truck, resulted in a massive scene of destruction, with the log truck’s cargo scattered across the road.
According to a witness working at a nearby construction site, the log truck veered into oncoming traffic after a car in front of it applied emergency brakes. In an attempt to avoid a rear-end crash, the log truck swerved into the opposite lane, directly into the path of the approaching side tipper.
The impact was devastating. The side tipper truck driver had no time or space to react and tragically died at the scene. The log truck driver sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A video captured after the crash shows the wreckage engulfed in flames, highlighting the severity of the impact. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene to manage the fire and clear the debris.

Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously, especially on highways with heavy truck traffic, as investigations into the incident continue.
