A truck driver is fortunate to be alive after a terrifying incident on the M61 Vereeniging Road in Alrode, where his own load reportedly crushed the cab of his truck following an emergency braking manoeuvre.
According to information from the scene, the driver allegedly applied sudden emergency brakes, causing the load of steel he was transporting to shift forward violently. The heavy cargo slammed into the back of the cab, forcing it down and crushing it face-first onto the road surface.
The impact left the cab severely damaged, with videos circulating from the scene showing the truck’s front section completely flattened against the ground. A large steel container, believed to have broken loose during the incident, can also be seen lying on its side next to the wreck.
Emergency services responded swiftly. Paramedics treated the driver on scene before transporting him to hospital with serious injuries. Despite the severity of the crash, the driver survived what could easily have been a fatal situation.
While the exact circumstances leading up to the emergency braking are still unclear, the incident highlights the dangers of load shift, especially when transporting heavy materials like steel. Improper load securing or sudden braking under heavy load conditions can have catastrophic consequences.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident further, including whether the load was properly secured and what may have caused the driver to brake suddenly.
