Watch: Truck Swept Away by Sudden Flash Flood Killing Driver

A heartbreaking video has surfaced online showing the terrifying moments a truck was swept away by a sudden flash flood while attempting to cross a rocky river crossing with no bridge in sight.

The incident happened on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, somewhere in Zimbabwe, although the exact location has not yet been confirmed.

According to one of the survivors who filmed the video, the truck got stuck halfway across the river and they were waiting for a recovery truck to pull them out. In the video, the truck can be seen struggling to climb over the rocks with the river flowing calmly behind it. Everything looked normal and rescuers were on the way, but within seconds the river level began rising rapidly and turned into a raging beast.

As the current started pushing the truck sideways, the driver’s two assistants managed to jump onto the rocks and scramble to safety. Sadly, the driver could not escape in time. The water ripped the truck loose and swept it downstream with him still inside.

At this stage it is not known whether his body has been recovered or if search teams are still looking.

It is also unclear what happened to the bridge that normally serves that crossing or whether a proper bridge ever existed there. Heavy rains have been pounding parts of Zimbabwe as the rainy season begins, and rivers are bursting unexpectedly and with serious force.

This is a painful reminder. When rivers start flooding, you are not stronger than the water. A truck is not stronger than the water. The river will win every single time.

To all drivers, especially cross border guys running remote routes, please do not gamble with flooded crossings. Rather wait it out or find a safer detour. No load and no deadline is worth a life.

Rest easy to the fallen driver. Strength and comfort to his family and colleagues.
