Powerful crosswinds caused multiple trucks to overturn on the N2 in the Western Cape on Monday, with incidents reported at Sir Lowry’s Pass, Riversdale, and between Arabella and Kleinmond.
Authorities and fellow truckers are warning drivers operating empty or light loads to exercise extreme caution as dangerous wind conditions continue across parts of the province.
Videos and images from the affected areas show the severity of the winds, with several high-profile vehicles reportedly blown over during the day.
Road users have also been warned about hazardous driving conditions caused by fallen trees, debris on road surfaces, and reduced visibility.
Officials are urging motorists to reduce speed, remain alert, and avoid unnecessary travel where possible until weather conditions improve.
High-profile vehicles such as trucks, tankers, buses, and delivery vehicles are especially vulnerable to strong side winds. Drivers have been strongly advised to pull off the road in a safe area if conditions become too dangerous.
Truckers travelling with empty trailers or light loads face the highest risk, particularly on exposed routes and mountain passes where sudden gusts can destabilise vehicles within seconds.
The incidents have raised concerns among transport operators using the busy N2 freight corridor, especially as severe weather continues to impact parts of the Western Cape.
Drivers travelling through the affected areas are encouraged to communicate with fellow truckers, monitor weather updates, and avoid taking unnecessary risks on the road.
No serious injuries had been officially confirmed at the time of publishing.
