Two truck drivers were killed in a horrific head-on collision on the N12 outside Kimberley on Wednesday night. The crash happened shortly after 21h00 on the stretch towards Modderrivier in the Northern Cape.
According to early reports, a petrol tanker and a side tipper collided head-on, sparking an intense fire that engulfed both trucks within seconds. The impact left both drivers trapped inside their cabs with no chance of escape.
By the time emergency services arrived, the trucks were already consumed by flames. Responders could not reach the drivers due to the extreme heat and were unable to save their lives.
Authorities remained on scene late into the night as teams worked to extinguish the blaze and secure the area, especially given the hazardous load carried by the tanker.
