Watch: Two Trucks Collide on Van Reenen Pass, N3 Johannesburg-Bound Closed

Traffic heading toward Johannesburg on the N3 has been severely disrupted after a serious crash involving two trucks along Van Reenen Pass.

According to information released by N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), the collision occurred at marker N3-6X 54.4 on the Johannesburg-bound carriageway. The crash involved a Zambian-registered truck and a side tipper.

The exact circumstances leading up to the crash are still unclear.

Video footage from the scene shows the Zambian-registered truck positioned across the roadway, completely blocking both northbound lanes. The side tipper involved in the collision came to rest a few metres away on the side of the road.

As a result of the crash, the Johannesburg-bound carriageway has been closed to traffic while recovery and clean-up operations continue.

N3TC confirmed that traffic management teams have implemented a contraflow system to allow vehicles heading toward Johannesburg to pass the scene using the Durban-bound lanes.

Motorists travelling along Van Reenen Pass have been urged to approach the area with caution as emergency crews and recovery teams continue to work at the scene.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether there were any injuries.

Traffic delays are expected in the area until the damaged vehicles are removed and the roadway is cleared. Motorists planning to travel along the N3 between KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng are advised to allow extra travel time or consider alternative routes where possible.
