Johannesburg – A truck driver narrowly escaped losing his wheels in a daring early morning attack at Cosco Shipping on Merino Ave in City Deep on Thursday morning, 28 August 2025.
According to the driver, he had just parked his rig and walked to the security office to register his arrival around 06:00 when tyre thieves struck. Within minutes, suspects pulled up in a small car and began loosening the wheel nuts on his truck.
Fortunately, their plan was cut short. Footage captured on the truck’s monitoring system shows the suspects working quickly, removing two or three nuts before abruptly abandoning the scene. It is believed they were disturbed when the driver started returning to his vehicle earlier than expected.

This brazen incident highlights the growing risk of truck-related crimes in hotspot areas like City Deep, where opportunistic criminals are targeting drivers who step away from their trucks, even for a few minutes.
Truckers are urged to remain extra vigilant and take every precaution when operating in and around freight facilities.
