A horrific head-on collision on the N2 near Maduzane and Ajax in Mkhondo has left one person dead and another injured early on Tuesday morning.
According to the Mkhondo Traffic Department, the driver of a VW Polo was killed on impact after colliding head-on with a truck. The truck driver sustained injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported for further medical care.
Dashcam footage from the truck involved in the crash reveals just how quickly the situation unfolded. The Polo can be seen travelling at high speed before suddenly crossing into the truck’s lane, giving the driver no chance to avoid the impact.
The collision was extremely violent. The truck swerved under the force of the crash, lost control, and overturned onto its side, spilling a full load of coal across the road. The scene caused major disruption on the N2 as emergency services and recovery teams worked to clear the wreckage.
