Watch: Who’s at Fault? Bakkie vs. Truck in a Near-Miss Overtaking Disaster

Changing lanes without checking mirrors can be catastrophic, as shown in a dashcam video sent to SA Trucker. The incident occurred on the R509 at Boons situated between Magaliesburg and Derby in North West this Tuesday afternoon.

In the footage, a yellow truck suddenly moves into the oncoming lane just as a bakkie is overtaking it.

The bakkie driver, with impressive control, swerves onto the shoulder, avoids a crash, and gets back on the road safely.

This raises a serious question: Who was at fault?

1️⃣ Was the bakkie going too fast for the trucker to see?
2️⃣ Did the trucker fail to check his mirrors before switching lanes?

If the truck driver had checked his mirrors properly, he would likely have seen the approaching bakkie and avoided the dangerous lane change. But what if the bakkie was speeding, making it difficult for the trucker to notice in time?

This situation is similar to the infamous Mbombela crash, where a Mercedes-Benz collided with a turning truck at an intersection. That incident sparked a fierce debate – some blamed the car’s speed, while others said the truck turned recklessly in front of oncoming traffic.

Now, in this case – who do YOU think is to blame? See you in comments.
