Western Cape Government Rolls Out Phase 2 of Free Travel Vouchers for Jobseekers

The Western Cape Government is shifting gears in the fight against unemployment by launching Phase 2 of the “Getting You to Work” Jobseeker Travel Voucher Programme, and it’s happening this coming Tuesday, 10 June 2025, in Mitchells Plain.

First piloted back in February 2024, this game-changing initiative gives unemployed jobseekers in Cape Town free Golden Arrow bus tickets to help them get to interviews and other job-hunting appointments. With taxi fares and bus fees often standing in the way of opportunity, this project has already made a massive difference for many struggling to find work.

The upcoming Phase 2 is expected to reach even more people and expand beyond the original areas covered during the pilot. After seeing solid results and positive feedback from participants, the province is doubling down on its commitment to removing transport as a barrier to employment.

The official launch will take place at Mitchells Plain Town Centre Library, with Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku and other key officials expected to address attendees. The event kicks off at 10h30 sharp.

This is a big win for jobseekers who often have to choose between food for the day or bus fare to an interview. With Phase 2 rolling out, even more Capetonians will be able to chase work opportunities without worrying about how to get there.

Now that’s what we call mobility that matters!
