A 30-year-old female passenger died and the 42-year-old male driver sustained serious injuries when the truck they were travelling in overturned on the notorious Apples bend on Town Hill, Pietermaritzburg this morning.

Reports from the scene indicate that the truck was descending down the hill when the driver lost control.

The truck hit the barriers and overturned losing it’s container from the trailer in the process.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 6:35 am to find the driver hanging out the windshield and the passenger entrapped.

The woman unfortunately showed no signs of life and was declared dead on arrival.

The driver required Advanced Life Support interventions before being taken to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg.

SAPS and the Road Traffic Inspectorate were on the scene for further investigations.
