Western Cape police have confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old Zimbabwean national who was found to be in South Africa illegally.

The arrest took place on 22 May 2024 aboard a cross-border bus in Beaufort West, as it was heading out of the province.

SA Trucker has been reliably informed that the apprehended individual is allegedly linked to the ongoing Delft double murder investigations in which a truck driver and his assistant were killed.

However, the connection between the suspect and the Delft murders remains unconfirmed at this stage.

During a law enforcement parade in Belhar, Cape Town, on Thursday, a reporter questioned Provincial Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile about the potential link between the suspect and the Delft murder case.

Patekile responded, “At this stage, that’s under investigation,” emphasizing that no definitive connection has been established yet.

The Western Cape police released a statement confirming the arrest details. “A 28-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested in Beaufort-West Yesterday, 22 May 2024 as an undocumented person. He will appear in the Beaufort-West Magistrates’ court soon,” the statement read.
