Zim Trucker Steals Diesel During Job Test – Leaves Recruiters Stunned!

In a story that sounds more like a movie script than real life, a Zimbabwean truck driver pulled off one of the most brazen diesel heists we’ve heard this year — right in the middle of a job test!

Police in Zimbabwe’s Midlands province confirmed recovering a tipper truck that was stolen from Fidelis Lin Gold Mine in Shurugwi… by one of the very guys who was being tested to drive it!

According to provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the mine had been running a recruitment drive for Class Two drivers. Four hopefuls were shortlisted and asked to complete a practical test, which included loading and offloading gold ore, and parking the truck back at the mine.

But here’s where the story flips: while three of the test drivers parked the trucks as instructed, one guy decided the job wasn’t enough — he wanted the whole truck and its 300-litre full tank of diesel, worth about US$450! (about R8000).

As the sun set, mine officials noticed one of the trucks missing. A few hours later, around 7:30pm, a tip-off led police to Msasa business centre near Shurugwi — and guess what they found? The truck, neatly parked… but bone dry. All the diesel was gone.

The guts it takes to steal from a truck you’re being tested on? That’s on another level. This guy clearly didn’t care about the job – he had his eyes on the prize: diesel!

Inspector Mahoko confirmed that the suspects’ identities were never recorded, making investigations a bit trickier. But one thing’s for sure – this incident will be remembered for years in Zimbabwean trucking circles.

Moral of the story? Never give a full tank to an unverified driver – he might just pass your test and then pass your yard on the way out!
