A truck driver and his assistant were tragically shot dead on Thursday morning while making bread deliveries at the corners of Symphony Way and Temprol in the suburb of Delft.
A third occupant in the truck, a female, survived the attack.
The incident occurred around 8 am when the occupants of a white Isuzu bread truck, branded with the Sasko logo, were ambushed by unknown gunmen.
There are allegations that the attack is connected to extortion gangs, a growing concern in the area.
Reports suggest that Sasko bread trucks operating in Delft typically do not have any escorts during deliveries, potentially making them vulnerable targets.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Bilqis Poole, confirmed that Delft detectives are investigating two counts of murder. “Delft police responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival at the scene, they found the victims with gunshot wounds inside the vehicle they were driving,” Poole stated.
Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen, expressed his anger and concern over the incident.
He highlighted that the Western Cape Government has the highest Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) deployment in Delft.
“With the additional support we’re providing to SAPS, we are making steady inroads in this area, but we are fully aware that we have a long way to go. I am deeply angered that murders continue to occur,” Allen remarked.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stop on 08600 1011.
