2 pupils die as their scholar transport bus crashes into building in Limpopo

Two female pupils have died and several others were injured when a scholar transport bus they were travelling in veered off the road and crashed into an abandoned building at Makgopheng village in Limpopo this Monday morning.

The tragic crash happened on the Makgopheng Ga-Mmabolo road.

It’s alleged that the driver lost control of the bus, due to unknown reasons, then it veered off the road and hit the abandoned building.

The MEC for the Department of Education in Limpopo, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya is saddened by the untimely death of two learners who perished on their way to school this morning.

The two deceased learners were schooling at Sehlomola Primary and MR Mamabolo Secondary schools.

The learners from Spitskop were on their way to school when the accident happened.

Over twenty learners and the driver of the bus were rushed to Mankweng Hospital for medical attention.

The information around the accident is still a matter of investigation by the authorities.

Education MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has passed her sincere and heartfelt condolences to the two families and wished a speedy recovery to all the learners who are still receiving medical attention.

“We woke this morning to the sad news of a bus crash that claimed the lives of our two learners. It is heartbreaking because these kids are the future leaders of the country and we were still expecting to see them grow and achieve their dreams. Our teams of social workers are already dispatched to the schools for debriefing and to offer the much-needed psycho-support. Our prayers are with the families and the teachers during this difficult time”,said MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya.

Two learners are in a critical but stable condition while eighteen were treated and released.
