Pongola – 10 people including school children have been killed after a side tipper truck collided with a bakkie transporting school children on the N2 highway near Pongola in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Eight of the deceased are children and two are adults.
An eleventh person – a child – is fighting for his life in hospital after sustaining critical injuries.
The accident, happened between Pongola and Itshelejuba.

The crash reportedly involved and a truck and a bakkie that was transporting school pupils.
Emergency services are on the scene and the cause of the crash is unknown as this stage.
