11 Arrested, Truck, Trailers and Load of Tyres Recovered in Johannesburg

Police in Gauteng have arrested 11 suspects and recovered a hijacked truck, trailers and its load of tyres on Monday, 14 February.

A police report stated that the truck and trailers were hijacked on the N3 at Heidelberg.

The hijackers removed the horse that was pulling the trailers and dumped it on the R23 where it was recovered.

Provincial head office crime intelligence in conjuction with JMPD K9, Highway Patrol and Johannesburg Flying Squad acted on information which led them to a storage facility in Croesus Industrial area.

On arrival at the premises, a Gauteng Highway patrol BMW sped off, the team tactically approached the suspects who were busy offloading the tyres from the hikacked trailers into the warehouse.

A total of 11 suspects, all Malawian nationals, were arrested. Upon being interviewed, they said they were hired by a Somalian guy to offload the tyres from the truck.

The stock was estimated at R2 million rands by the lawful owners.

The truck was coming from Durban when it was hijacked.

The suspects were arrested and charged for possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of stolen goods and they were detained at Langlaagte SAPS.
