Trucking company, SA Transit Services trading as Massyn Vervoer has refuted claims in a leaked document from Director Frans Massyn to staff that the company was closing down saying only part of the business was affected.
This after SA Trucker published a story reporting that Massyn Vervoer CEO, Frans Massyn had written to employees informing them of his decision to sell the company or cease all operations.
Spokesperson Bettie Massyn told SA Trucker that the leaked document was just a draft which fell in the wrong hands and ended up online.
“We are not closing down our entire operations – we are not liquidating, it’s only the tautliner division which we are letting go because of unfavourable market conditions in the road freight industry and the vandalism and damages the company has experienced in the past,” explained Bettie Massyn reiterating what Frans had mentioned in the leaked memorandum.
She said the tautliner division will cease to operate on the 30th of April 2022.
Massyn said, in part of his written response:
“This was not a decision taken lightly but with heartsore for a company build over 40 years.
Unfortunately, there are a few current issues playing an influence on our business that we can’t control.
Under market related tariff increases.
- Under market related tariff increases
- Increasing of fixed costs that we can’t control
- Strikes and closure of main routes
- Hacking of computers resulting in undeliverable loads (Harbor and Ports)
- The number of increased truck lootings in our country
- We are taking the safety of our drivers very serious”
Massyn could not be drawn to mention how the company was directly affected by the vandalism in the trucking industry or the hacking of Transnet’s IT system.
“All drivers will be given a job – there will not be any job losses. We will do our upmost to get all staff accommodated in the workforce,” Massyn said.
“We will still be operating in the years to come, and all queries will be attended to.
