ballito taxi crash with wheel

A routine journey turned into a nightmare for passengers aboard a taxi travelling on the N2 in Ballito on Monday night, as a terrifying collision with a runaway truck wheel left two individuals critically injured.

The incident unfolded on the N2 northbound, just before the Ballito offramp, prompting a swift response from IPSS Medical Rescue after receiving reports of the taxi accident.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moment when a loose wheel, dislodged from a truck travelling on the opposite side of the highway, careened across lanes and struck the taxi head-on, propelling it into chaos.

Tragically, two occupants of the taxi bore the brunt of the impact, sustaining critical injuries in the collision.

IPSS Medical Advanced Life Support personnel stabilized the injured individuals before swiftly transporting them to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

In addition to the two critically injured passengers, ten others sustained minor injuries in the chaotic aftermath of the collision.

Remarkably, despite the severity of the incident, the occupants of the second vehicle involved were fortunate to escape unscathed.

The N2 Northbound was closed for a while to facilitate the work of emergency personnel who tirelessly attended to the scene.

It’s unknown how the wheel came off the truck, however, authorities were there to investigate.
