Watch: Fuel tanker arrested after being filmed doing 123km/h, beer found in truck

A tanker driver has been arrested after he was filmed by another motorist doing 123km/h on the N3 eastbound just past the Pavillion Mall in Westville only to be stopped in Durban CBD on Sunday afternoon.

After being stopped, some beer bottles were found in the truck.

It’s alleged that a concerned motorist was overtaken by the MAN rigid tanker while he was travelling at 115km/h, he accelerated and caught up with it only to discover he was doing about 123km/h.

Video footage of the incident shows the two vehicles moving at par doing 123km/h then gradually reduces speed to around 110km/h.

The motorist told SA Trucker that he was surprised with the speed at which the truck was travelling and decided to film it.

He says that he followed the tanker truck from just past the Pavillion Mall waiting for an opportunity to confront the driver.

“Luckily, just as we got into town, we were both stopped by a traffic light and not far from us, there was a police van,” he said.

“I moved to block the truck and the driver upon seeing this, tried to manoeuvre away but the police officers saw what was happening and came to us,” he added.

The police officers asked the tanker driver to jump out from the truck but he refused. When the police officers eventually managed to remove the driver from the truck, they found some beer and empty beer bottles in the cab.
