Truckers are urged to avoid the N2 between Ermelo and Piet Retief following violent protests which has resulted in trucks being torched.
SA Truckers on the scene reported that 3 trucks have been burned.
Fleetwatch also sent out an urgent alert to truckers to avoid the area.
August 4th – 18h55: Protestors are stoning and burning trucks on the N2 just outside Ermelo coming in from Piet Retief. FleetWatch has just spoken to someone who was on the scene who said trucks were being turned around. Unfortunately, another source has posted that three trucks have already been burnt. There have been a number of service delivery protests over the past year in this area and although we don’t have details of what this is all about, we’re guessing it is once again due to locals protesting against lack of service delivery. Whatever it is, this is an urgent call to all truckers to avoid the Ermelo area and surrounds.
