Driver killed, another seriously injured in fiery N2 head-on crash outside Mkhondo

A truck driver was killed and another seriously injured when their trucks collided head-on and caught fire on the N2 between Ermelo and Piet Retief in Mpumalanga on Wednesday afternoon.

The two trucks, a side tipper interlink and a tautliner superlink, collided near Iswepe between Ermelo and Mkhondo (formerly Piet Retief).

According to Mkhondo Fire Department, both trucks were engulfed in flames after the accident.

He was immediately transferred to hospital in critical condition.

The road was closed for a few hours as authorities fought off the fire and then cleared the scene.

The cause of the collision is not known at this stage.
