Fleet Owner Amongst Nine CIT Heist Suspects Killed in Sebokeng

One of the nine cash-in-transit heist suspects who were killed in a shootout with police in Sebokeng on Thursday is a fleet owner, SA Trucker has been reliably informed.

The transporter whose name was supplied to SA Trucker, owned a fleet of 10 side tipper trucks which operated from his base in Gauteng.

Grisly pictures of the slain fleet owner and his accomplices surfaced on social media after the gunbattle.

According to police spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe, SAPS Tactical Response Team (TRT) pounced on the gang as it was on its way to commit a CIT robbery on Thursday morning.

Eight of the suspects were killed at the scene of the gunbattle with police. A ninth suspect later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Three other suspects are receiving medical treatment under police guard in hospital.

“A total of eight suspects were certified dead at the scene while the ninth suspect died in hospital. Three others were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Six rifles, six commercial explosives that were already assembled and ready to be detonated as well as four vehicles have been seized,” Mathe said.

Police minister Bheki Cele said he is confident that police are making serious inroads in the fight against serious and violent crime.
