Free State Police Find 15 Undocumented Passengers On Foreign Registered Bus

Police arrested 15 people they found on a foreign registered bus at a truck stop in Free State on Monday.

According to a statement, the Welkom K9 Unit members were on a routine crime combatting operation in Ventersburg on Monday, 20 March 2023 when they spotted a bus with foreign number plates parked at a truck stop. The officers immediately approached the vehicle and conducted checks on the passengers’ travelling documents.

“As a result of the checks, 15 passengers were found to be in contravention of the Immigration Act as they did not have passports. They were subsequently arrested and taken into custody,” said the police.

In addition, one individual was also arrested for obstructing the cause of justice and Crimen Injuria.

The 16 suspects were taken to the Ventersburg Police Station and will appear in the Ventersburg Magistrate Court on 22 March 2023 to face charges related to their arrests.
