Fuel tanker fire leads to N3 closure at Lynnfield Park in KZN

The N3 is closed to traffic on both directions at Lynnfield Park near Ashburton in KwaZulu-Natal after a fuel tanker caught fire on the southbound carriageway.

Provincial road traffic inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said both lanes had been closed as the tuck, laden with paraffin, is emitting clouds of smoke.

“The truck was en route to Durban and we have been forced to close the opposite lane as smoke is blowing into that lane and obscuring the vision of motorists,” she said.

It’s reported that the truck was transporting paraffin.

It’s not known how long it will take to clear the scene, motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
