Massive traffic delays on N3 at Peter Brown following truck crash and oil spill

The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) has warned road users of heavy congestion due to a total road closure following an earlier oil spill after a truck accident in the vicinity of the Peter Brown Interchange in Pietermaritzburg.

“On the southbound carriageway (towards Durban) stationary traffic may extend back beyond the Cedara Interchange towards Tweedie,” N3TC warned.

Motorists have been requested to slow down and please approach the area with caution as clean up operations are underway.

N3TC warned that congestion and delays are expected to continue until the scene has been cleared.

The N3 southbound was closed on Sunday morning, just after 7 after a tanker truck transporting oil overturned.

Spokesperson for Road Traffic Inspectorate, Zinhle Mngomezulu, said the truck lost brakes on its way down the N3 from Hilton and overturned just after the Peter Brown bridge.

“Part of the truck is also on the north bound and there’s oil spilling from it. Traffic was diverted to Hilton Road while cars on the north bound were still able to use the N3. We will however monitor the situation,” said Mngomezulu.

She said the driver was able to get out of the truck but needed medical attention
