N3 Closed at Ashburton Following a Gas Tanker Crash

The N3 freeway is closed between Durban and Pietermaritzburg at Ashburton after a gas tanker truck overturned spilling the highly flammable LPG (UN1075) gas that it was transporting.

After an assessment, the fire department has decided to close the N3 and put a 1km exclusion zone so traffic is being diverted to the R103 which is going to be chaotic.

Anyone planning to travel on the N3 between Durban and Pietermarizburg should consider delaying their trip or using alternatives.
