N3 north closed at Dasville after three trucks collide and catch fire

A three truck collision on the N3 Johannesburg-bound carriageway on Thursday morning has seen the freeway being closed to traffic.

According to information provided to SA Trucker by drivers who arrived at the scene just after 02h20, an articulated truck rear-ended another which was being towed.

It’s further reported that all the three trucks caught fire on impact.

The N3TC sent out an update in which they announced a lengthy closure of the N3 northbound lanes for the duration of the clean-up operation.

“All northbound lanes in the vicinity are CLOSED. Traffic is being diverted at the Vaaldraai/Vereeniging interchange (I/C 5) to rejoin the N3 northbound again at the Dasville interchange (I/C 28)”

“Emergency services are on scene, but it may be a while before recovery and clean-up operations can be completed. Traffic congestion and delays in this area should be expected for most of the day,” said N3TC.

The condition of the drivers involved on the fiery crash could not be immediately verified. An update will follow when all the information becomes available.
