The R40 is closed near Rocky’s Drift following a crash between a minibus taxi and a diesel tanker truck on Saturday morning, October 28, 2023.
The crash occurred at the KMI Airport turn-off just before Rocky’s Drift.
According to Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, the accident happened at approximately 06:00.
The road is currently closed due to a diesel spillage, and traffic is being redirected via the Plaston road.
Mmusi also reported that 13 passengers and the driver sustained minor injuries, while one passenger was seriously injured.
The truck driver was unharmed.
“At the moment, the cause of the accident is unclear. However, emergency personnel are on the scene, and our officials are working to reopen the road. There is no estimated time for when the road will reopen. We advise motorists to use alternative routes to avoid delays and to be patient with us as we work to reopen the road,” he stated.
Mmusi further mentioned that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
