A policeman from Newcastle K9 was arrested and detained for drunken driving and reckless / negligent driving after being involved in a road accident whilst driving a state vehicle when he collided with two other vehicles on the N3 on 13 January 2023.
A video of the reckless and negligent driving by the policeman has gone viral on social media showing the van criss-crossing the busy N3 northbound freeway at Ashburton.
He is caught on camera as he side swipes a bakkie but he does not stop and drives on.
According to a source who is not allowed to speak to the media, the policeman was going back to Newcastle after fetching his dog from Veterinary clinic in Durban.
He was filmed driving recklessly before crashing into two vehicles.
The policeman faces charges of driving whilst drunk, reckless and negligent driving. He was detained at Mountain Rise saps.
