Watch: Police officer, accomplices arrested for attempted truck hijacking

Members of the EMPD have arrested one of their own after foiling his alleged attempts to hijack a truck transporting masks on the N12 in Boksburg on Thursday.

The EMPD police officer was arrested together with another suspect who is not a police official.

It is alleged that alert cops came across the hijacking as it unfolded. When the suspects saw them they abandoned their plot and fled the scene.

A high-speed chase ensued resulting in the getaway vehicle crashing into a truck on the corner of Rolls Royce Street and Atlas Road in Atlasville.

The cop and his accomplice were arrested on the scene.

Two firearms were recovered in the suspects getaway vehicle which was fitted with blue lights.

The duo was allegedly part of four other suspects who managed to evade arrest.

Police are now tracing the suspects who got away.

The suspects are both expected to appear in court soon.
