The situation is tense in Pongola after a side tipper truck driver lost control and crashed into a house at Waterbus in Pongola this Friday morning.
In videos of the crash scene sent to SA Trucker, community members can be heard shouting and baying for the driver’s blood.
On several occasions the Pongola community have banned trucks from using the N2 through Pongola after a side tipper truck collided with a scholar transport bakkie killing 20 people last year.
The community only allowed the trucks back onto the N2 after they pledged to drive safely. It’s feared that the accident this morning may reignite protests against the truckers again.
It could not be immediately confirmed if they were any casualties. This story will be updated when more information is obtained.
