Alex FM's DJ Jorontinah shot dead during hijacking

Dj Jorontinah is no more. The Alex FM Music Manager, real name, Joshua Mbatha, was shot dead during a hijacking on Thursday night on his way home from work.

“It is with great pain to inform you of the sad news of the passing on of our staff member Joshua Mbatha,” wrote Alex FM 89.1 wrote on social media confirming news of his death.

“Dj Jorontinah (32) as he was affectionately known, was the Music Manager at Alex FM.

“He was on his way home with two of his colleagues Sammy Ramodike and Matome Mookanedi, when they were stopped by about three gunmen at 7th Selbourne. They took their phones and shoes before shooting Joshua in the chest,” Alex FM 89.1 added.

“Mbatha succumbed to his injuries at Masakhane clinic around 21h00,” Alex FM Chairperson Isaac Mangena confirmed.

“We are with his father and other family members now at the clinic. Station Manager is also with his team comforting each other. Let’s keep the family and Josh’s colleagues in our prayers.

“May his soul rest in peace.

“A promising career gone too soon.

“Funeral details and Memorial Service will be announced in due course after consultation with the family,” said Mangena.

Dj Jorontinah’s shooting sparked rumours of a bloody night in alex with social media users alleging that six people had been killed in random shootings.

However, this could not be immediately confirmed.
