Three police officers are lucky to be alive after a side tipper truck crashed into their van on the N2 highway between Pongola and Piet Retief on Monday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he collided with the police van.
The police van was parked on the side of the road conducting a routine stop and search when the incident occurred.
The driver was reportedly taken in for questioning.
