Boksburg explosion: Driver released from custody as there’s no ‘case against him’

The driver of the truck that exploded after it crashed into a bridge in Boksburg is now a free man after being released from custody.

The 32-year-old man was taken into custody after 18 people died when gas leaked from the truck he was driving and exploded on 24 December.

However, he was not charged.

The media waiting at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday was told by an official from the National Prosecuting Authority that there was no case against the driver as provincial police said there was not enough evidence against him.
