Boksburg tanker explosion driver's employer, ISS, explains driver's actions

Innovative Staffing Solutions (ISS) who employs the driver behind the wheel of an Infinite Transport tanker truck that exploded killing 10 people and injuring several others in Boksburg on Christmas eve has confirmed that a full investigation into the circumstances of the tragic event in Boksburg is already underway.

ISS Managing Director, Arnoux Maré told SA Trucker that preliminary investigations have already established that the driver is highly experienced, with a professional driving qualification in working at heights, and seven years of experience in transporting hazardous materials.

The driver had also recently passed a medical test confirming his fitness to drive.

Speaking to eNCA, Maré said, as per safety procedure, the driver reported immediately after noticing the leak.

“He immediately called the controllers that were monitoring the truck and they immediately dispatched our safety personnel to assess the situation. Unfortunately, they arrived after the explosion had already happened,” said Maré.

“We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, as well as to those who were injured,” stated Maré.

“Our hearts truly go out to all victims of the explosion, and we would like to offer our complete reassurance that we are performing an urgent internal and independent investigation to determine the true cause of the accident. The health and safety of our employees, clients and the public are our top priority, and we are taking this incident extremely seriously.”

Infinite Transport offers sincere condolences to the victims

Infinite Transport says it is deeply saddened by the tragic explosion of its tanker truck which led to the deaths of 10 people and injured several others.

“The directors and management team of infinite Transport are deeply saddened by the tragic explosion that occurred in Boksburg this morning,” the company said in a statement.

“Infinite deeply regrets the very sad and unfortunate loss of life and injuries sustained by all involved parties and we wish to offer our sincere condolences to all of the aggrieved families.

“Our thoughts are with all persons affected and injured as a result of today’s tragic accident. The driver that was involved in today’s unfortunate event is currently receiving medical attention in the hospital for injuries sustained during the event.

He is, unfortunately, unable to comment at this time but Infinite Management will ensure to interview him as soon as reasonably possible in order for us, and the investigation team, to be provided with the relevant information and answers he may have.

The directors and management team of Infinite Transport are currently working very closely with the respective authorities and independent investigators to investigate all the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

A final report and investigation outcome will be completed in due course after all facts and information have been gathered.

Infinite Transport wished all injured parties a speedy recovery.
