Bus and truck head-on crash leaves 5 dead and 43 injured in Free State

Five people have been killed and 43 others injured when a bus and an articulated truck collided head-on on the N6 in Free State on Friday morning.

The provincial Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Sipho Towa, said emergency personnel were summoned to the scene at about 04:00.

On arrival, they found a truck and the bus had collided head-on.

Five passengers who were trapped in the bus were declared dead on the scene six suffered moderate injuries, one was critically injured, and 36 suffered minor injuries.

All patients were transported to the Smithfield Hospital.

Towa cautions motorists to avoid travelling in the area as the road is currently closed. Authorities and emergency services teams are on the scene.
