MALAMULELE – Collins Chabane Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Moses Maluleke has been murdered. His son who was with him at the time of the shooting also sustained gunshot wounds but survived the attack.

According to Newzroom Africa, the Mayor was gunned down at his home by unknown suspects on Thursday night.

The full circumstances behind Maluleke’s assassination have not yet been released.

He was the regional deputy chairperson of ANC in Limpopo.

Moses Maluleke, well known as “Big-Moss” was a South African politician who was serving as the second mayor of Collins Chabane Local Municipality.

Maluleke was born at Xikundu village outside Malamulele where he matriculated at Xikundu high school before starting his tertiary education at Tivumbeni College of Education.

He went on and further his studies where he completed his honours degree in Management with the University of Pretoria.

Maluleke has been working as the deputy principal of Xikundu high school since 2011 and he has been always producing good results.

Growing up as an activist within the ranks of ANC, ANCYL, SACP, COSATU, it was not difficult for Maluleke to familiarize himself with students’ politics during his tertiary level.

In 1988, Maluleke was elected to serve in the Students Representative Council at Tivumbeni College of Education.

Maluleke also served as a Chairperson of the African National Congress Branch Executive Committee since 1990.

Maluleke was also elected to serve as the Treasurer of the ANC Sub-region which is now called Collins Chabane Sub-region.

In 2016, after the Local Government Elections, the ANC deployed Maluleke to serve and represent the ANC in the district level as a Councillor forming part of the Mayoral Committee.

The ANC couldn’t fail to recognize his capacity to lead the ANC, Maluleke was elected to serve in the ANC Regional Executive Committee Member in the Vhembe region where he is currently serving as the ANC Deputy Secretary.

In 2018 December, the Council of Collins Chabane Local Municipality took a decision through the majority rights to deploy Maluleke to serve as the new Mayor of Collins Chabane Local Municipality where he started his first day in office by filling the Saselamani stadium to its full capacity during the opening of the stadium and official handing over of electricity at Mabandla in Malamulele as well as the launching of Collins Chabane Sports Council.

Maluleke worked very closely with the late Minister of public administration and services Collins Chabane.
