Driver arrested as dashcam reveals he faked his own hijacking

A truck driver for a Durban based company has been arrested for faking his own hijacking last week in Johannesburg.

It’s alleged that his company, Valostar Transport, was alerted of the driver’s hijacking on November 22.

The company tried contacting the driver to no avail.

A frantic search was launched for the driver and the truck. Later that day, the horse and the trailer were found in different locations in Johannesburg. The trailer was empty as all the goods that he was transporting was stolen.

When the company reviewed the dashcam footage, they discovered something fishy with the interaction between the driver and his purported hijackers.

A company represented said the hijacking seemed as if it was staged.

Valostar then worked with authorities to get to the bottom of the issue which resulted in the driver being arrested on Tuesday the 29th November, at the company’s Pomona branch in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
