Five dead after car crashes into turning truck on N1 between Leeu Gamka and Beaufort West

Five people, including two children aged 10 and 11, have died after the car they were travelling in on the N1 between Beaufort West and Leeu Gamka collided with a truck.

Western Cape Traffic authorities says a sixth occupant of the car is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

Department spokesperson, Rebecca Campbell, says reports from the scene suggests that the car crashed into the articulated truck which was turning around from a rest stop.

Witnesses say, the truck was turning around but it looks like the truck driver did not see the approaching car leading to the crash.

This resulted in the car being trapped under the truck. That stretch of road was closed in both directions to allow authorities to investigate the crash.
