Five Dead in R56 Head-on Crash Between Truck and Sedan

Five people tragically lost their lives in a head-on collision involving a VW Polo and an articulated truck on the R56 road near Dyoki/Ugie, just 5km outside of Khowa/ Elliot Sunday.

Eastern Cape Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose, said that this incident occurred on Sunday, February 18, on the R56, according to him a VW Polo with five males collided head on with Volvo articulated truck with one male occupant.

“It is alleged that a VW Polo from the Northwest, while a Volvo Truck articulated with one male occupant was from Dyoki.

“The five occupants from VW Polo died instantly while truck driver escaped unharmed,” said Binqose.

Binqose added that the circumstances surrounded the cause of the crash still unknown at this stage.

He confirmed that a case of culpable homicide has been opened at Dyoki Police Station for further investigation.
