Off-duty police officers took swift action to apprehend four suspects involved in a truck hijacking in Newton Park, Gqeberha.
The incident unfolded at approximately 10:20 a.m. this Monday, October 23.
According to the police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, two off-duty members of the Flying Squad acted with remarkable courage and decisiveness to thwart the hijacking attempt.
Naidu said “The officers followed the targeted truck and a Quantum minibus closely, and at the intersection of Circular Drive in Fairview, they skillfully blocked both vehicles.”
In the ensuing chaos, shots were fired, and the suspects were swiftly taken into custody.
Police officers also managed to recover a firearm during the operation.
The scene of the incident in Circular Drive was promptly cordoned off by authorities, and traffic was temporarily rerouted to ensure the safety of the public.
