hijacked alcohol truck pe

Police in Port Elizabeth have recovered a hijacked truck and the alcohol stolen from the same truck valued at R1.4 million at a warehouse in Marine Drive near Schoenmakerskop.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the truck, carrying liquor to the value of R1.5 million, was hijacked in Grahamstown Road in Port Elizabeth at around 07h00 on Thursday.

The truck was then driven to an unknown location where the liquor was offloaded.

Colonel Naidu says the hijackers dumped the truck driver, his crew and their truck in Victoria Drive in Walmer.

They were found by police assisted by a tracking company shortly before 10h00 the same morning.

Most of the stolen liquor was recovered at the warehouse near Schoenmakerskop.

Some of the liquor had already been removed from the warehouse.

A total of 652 sealed cases of various types of liquor and 46 loose bottles as well as three pressure trolley jacks were recovered.

The total value of the recovered alcohol is about R1,4 million.

The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Port Elizabeth is investigating a case of truck hijacking.
