KZN truck hijacker killed in shootout with police, four arrested hijacking suspect fatally shot

A truck hijacker has been fatally wounded in a shootout with police in KwaZulu-Natal south coast. His four accomplices were also arrested during the gun battle.

It is alleged that the five men hijacked a truck at gunpoint in Murchison.

The suspects then fled the scene driving on the N2 freeway towards Durban.

Police officers gave chase and attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver refused to stop.

During the chase there was an exchange of gun fire.

At Ifafa, the truck drove into the embankment between the north bound and south bound lane.

The driver fled from the truck across the freeway and headed for the bushes.

The truck valued at approximately R300 000 was recovered.

Four suspects were apprehended on the scene.

Upon searching area, the body of a fifth suspect was found in the bushes.

The four men aged between 25 and 30 are expected to appear at the Port Sherpstone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 June 2021, facing charges of carjacking and attempted murder.
