The M7 was closed to traffic on the Durban bound carriageway following a crash involving two trucks and several other vehicles which resulted in a diesel spillage on the busy highway on Monday afternoon.

The crash happened just after Bellville offramp.

ALS Paramedics responded to reports of a crash involving two trucks and a car on the M7 Durbanbound carriageway just after Bellville offramp at 14h30.

When Paramedics arrived on the scene they found that the initial crash had now turned into a multiple vehicle crash at a result of a diesel spillage.

Paramedics assessed five patients on scene however only one person had sustained moderate injuries and was stabilized and transported by ALS Paramedics to a nearby hospital.

A total of eleven cars and two trucks were involved in the collisions and as a result Metro Police decided to close the M7 Durban Bound.

At this stage the events leading up to the crash is unknown however SAPS will be investigating further.

Traffic was heavily backed on both directions after some motorists crossed from the eastbound to the westbound lanes to escape the jam.
